Port Craig Lodge to Road End (Humpridge Track)

4/2/22, Day 3, 21 km, Total 63km

Elevation Gain: 555, Loss: 540

An easy last day.

Porridge for breakfast again was excellent then away by 7.45am. Good easy walking today following the coast the whole way with 8km of mostly flat but up and down small headlands. Then a couple of km of beach walking before the junction with the track to the car park that we walked on the first day.

It was cloudy and cool all day but didn’t rain as I thought it would.

I arrived at the car park after 5 hours just as a ute came along that had been at one of the batches. They gave me a lift into Tuatapere. It’s just as cold here.

Was the Humpridge track worth the high cost ($350)? I think so. The scenery was pretty good and the timber related history was interesting. Also the Lodges were really good. All the staff, from the booking office to the Lodge wardens were very friendly and helpful. So while it was very expensive it was a good experience.

I’ll head to TeAnau tomorrow.
