8/1/22, Day 79, 44km, Total 1975km
Elevation Gain: 347, Loss: 651m
My biggest distance so far at 44km.
We left the campsite at 7am thinking we would do 30km then camp, leaving us 13km for the next day. Initially we were in the beach forest for 6km. That was a really good track. Then we were onto the road where the walking was easy and relatively fast. It soon became apparent that we would be able to make it to the main road without having to camp. So we just kept walking and by 4.30pm we were at the pick up point where Dorothy was waiting with the motorhome. It was so good to get there.
The day was really hot from about 10am onwards with a slight breeze to cool us a bit.
The Top 10 Holiday Park where Dennis and Dorothy are staying has a bunk room for backpackers and I’m the only occupant at the moment.
We will take tomorrow off and start walking again on Monday. Hopefully after my new shoes arrive. They are with the courier company somewhere between Greymouth and here. At least the food parcel has arrived.
Despite today being such a big day we both feel pretty good. My newish Icebreaker socks have a big hole from today but the will see me through to Invercargill.
Only 250km to go to Bluff.
