4/11/21, Day 27, 6km, Total 773km
Elevation Gain:98, Loss: 216m
A cruisy walking day plus some retail therapy.
Set off at 9.30am and it didn’t take long to get to the Terminus. This is marked by a plaque in the middle of a park in Island Bay. Bit of an anticlimax on two accounts. 1, I’ve still got the Tararuas to go back and do, and 2, It was a dismal day with nobody else around. Got the obligatory photos then went for coffee. I sure hope that getting to Bluff is a bit more of an event.
Dropped my pack at Nicci’s place (a Trail Angel) 15 minutes walk away and caught a bus into Wellington to have the people at Triton sort out one of my hearing aids. I think they are onto it. Getting another ear mould made which I’ll have to catch up with somewhere in a few weeks time.
Also visited my favourite shoe shop – Number One Shoes and replaced my shoes. Heaps more tread on the new pair. 773km out of the old pair is pretty good given what they have been subjected to. I definitely got my $80 worth out of them.
So I’m good to go for a few hundred (or thousand) more kms.
Coffee. Before I started this walk I would brew myself one good strong cup of coffee per day. I resolved that I wouldn’t buy any coffee while on the Trail.
Today I celebrated reaching the Terminus with a coffee. Man it was good and 7 hours later I’m still buzzing.
It’s looking like the Southerly winds could change to the north next Monday. So I’m planning to start the Tararuas on Saturday.
Looks like I’ve lost a glove so I’ll be shopping for a new pair tomorrow.
Cool picture at George’s Wellington on another grey day That marks the end of the North Island The plaque Yeah I did get to the Terminus I’m so glad I’m sleeping above the Tsunami line tonight The hole in the old pair New ones look much cleaner Hmmm much more tread6. Maybe I wouldn’t have blown over yesterday… Into the bin they go A front yard taken from top floor of a double decker bus.
