A hard day of road walking.
Dave dropped me back down to Helena Bay at 7.30am. Another coolish overcast day – initially.
After 1km I came to the gates to the luxury lodge owned by a Russian billionaire. Apparently people are protesting the invasion of Ukraine from boats anchored just off-shore from the Lodge. The locals are not impressed as this guy has done a lot for the community.
After 19km I came to “The Farm” where a lot of TA hikers stay the night. It was only midday so I bought a cold drink then carried on. The Farm seemed to have a lot of hippy type people staying there. They also do a lot of horse riding there.
A couple of km further on the Trail was on a gravel road for around 10km. Not a single car used that road while I was walking it.
Where it met the main road to Russell I stopped and put my thumb out. The very first car to come along took me to Russell. So I’ve skipped 10 km of the Trail.
I booked into the Haka Lodge which is a very new place with a bunk bed for $30/night. Very reasonable.
Tomorrow is a rest day.
