22/1/22, Day 3, 22km, Total 55km
Elevation Gain: 1062, Loss: 1039m
Another cold wet day.
Another sleep in and left the hut at 8.30am again. Made good time to the Yankee River hut. Met a young couple on the way. He was from Cambridge.
At the hut was a family of 5 (3 children) from Mapua. They were on the Timber Trail when I walked it and the father loaned me his bike for the last few km to Camp Epic. It was great to see them again.
I had lunch at that hut while chatting with them then set off for the next hut as it was only 3.5 hours away.
Once again I’ve got this hut to myself. I’m OK with that although sometimes it is nice to have some company. This hut also has cell phone reception which surprises me. I do have to be careful to not use up all of the charge in my power bank.
Maybe I’ll see some sun tomorrow.
The beaches I saw today were also nice although several of them were rocky. Hard to appreciate how nice the beaches are when it is so cold. I’m so looking forward to having a swim when/if the weather comes right.
