Bealey Road end to Hamilton Hut(To Lake Coleridge)

12/12/21, Day 56, 19km, Total 1367km

Elevation Gain: 963, Loss 827m

A nice easy day to a good hut.

Got a lift from Bill from The Sanctuary to the Bealey Hotel where Dennis stayed. He drove us to the road end and we were walking by 7.40am. Started with a really gentle climb up to Lagoon Saddle. The clouds were low so we were in the murk most the morning.

Stopped for a short break at the A-frame then carried on down hill to the stream we follow to Lake Coleridge.

Arrived at the hut at 2.30pm and it is a pretty good hut with a good stove and an excellent supply of decent wood. The hut is sometimes called the Hamilton Hilton Hut. Maybe not the best we’ve stayed in but still pretty good.

Tomorrow we walk down this river all the way to Lake Coleridge and then we will camp the night as no huts in the area. Then 23km road walking the next day to get a lift to Methven.

Dennis and I did some forward planning and it looks like we will be somewhere around Twizell for Christmas and Bluff by the end of January. That’s if things keep going as well as they have been.
