Hut bound for the day.
Slept in as was only planning a short 5 hour day to the next hut. Got all packed up, boots on and ready to go. Checked outside and it was cold and raining. Changed my mind and decided to stay put.
Part of the reason is that it is 2 days walk to where the river crossings start and it will take that long for them to drop enough for safe solo crossings. The forecast is good for tomorrow. Fingers crossed and hoping for a few more sunny days.
I’ve enjoyed chilling out (it is cold in this hut and not worth lighting the fire) reading the various magazines lying around.
Surprisingly it’s the first time I’ve been alone in a DOC hut since I started the South Island.
