Elevation Gain: 710, Loss: 830
Another awesome day.
Left the hut before the sun came over the hills but it had the makings of a good day. Good progress to Harpers Bivy which is the coolest small hut I’ve ever seen. After that it was slower going up to Harpers Saddle as the track was not so good plus lots of river crossings. While easy enough they are slow.
Then very steep down the other side. Stopped for lunch and Dennis turned up. Same age as me and from New Plymouth. Nice guy and exactly what I need to help me with the river crossings tomorrow. He stayed at the Hurunui Hut last night.
We will both head out to Arthur’s Pass tomorrow. Another TA SOBO at last. I’m so happy to have some company.
This Locke Stream Hut was built in the 1930s and has been upgraded since. It’s pretty good for its age.
Nice steps but no mud. Why? Had to duck under here Budget swing bridge that really swayed No idea what these lumps are on the trees A Kiwi print in the mud Harper Bivy Bivy – coolest little hut I’ve ever seen Nice flowers Looking over Harpers pass All downhill now The river that takes us to Arthur’s Pass Denis on a swing bridge View from the door of the hut Tonight’s hut. Old but good Could be me
